CONGRESSMAN PITTENGER REACTS TO DOJ CHALLENGE OF US AIRWAYS-AMERICAN AIRLINES MERGER
CHARLOTTE – This afternoon, Congressman Robert Pittenger (NC-09) issued the following statement after learning the Department of Justice is challenging the proposed US Airways-American Airlines merger:
“Charlotte-Douglas International Airport is one of the greatest economic engines available for creating jobs and growing businesses in the Charlotte area, and I am committed to supporting the airport, its infrastructure, and the airlines who serve Charlotte. This includes strong support for the vital new international intermodal transport facility, which will create thousands of new jobs over the next 20 years.
“This merger is expected to strengthen Charlotte-Douglas with enhanced national and international service, but consumers must have firm assurances of fair pricing.
“Regardless of the outcome of the merger, my focus will be on supporting the airport and its ability to create jobs.”
