CONGRESSMAN PITTENGER TO HOST MAJOR FORUM ON TERRORISM FINANCING IN LATIN AMERICA
CHARLOTTE – Congressman Robert Pittenger travels to Latin America this weekend to host a major international forum for Members of Parliament and other government officials regarding joint efforts to prevent terrorism financing activity in South America.
“Radical Islamic terrorists are increasingly partnering with Latin American drug lords to generate revenue for terrorist activity,” said Congressman Pittenger (NC-09). “The nexus between drug lords and Islamic terrorists is a major threat, especially considering our porous southern border. Working together with partners from ten South American nations, we will discuss collaborative efforts and the tools and technology necessary to defeat this diabolical evil within our hemisphere.”
Congressman Pittenger will be joined by representatives from Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay, and Venezuela, along with experts from the U.S. Treasury Department, international anti-money laundering agencies, and relevant private-sector technology and global financial firms.
Congressman Pittenger serves as Chairman of the Congressional Task Force on Terrorism and Unconventional Warfare, and Vice Chairman of the Financial Services Committee Task Force to Investigate Terrorism Financing.
