Pittenger to Obama: Help families, build Keystone
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
CONGRESSMAN PITTENGER VOTES FOR KEYSTONE, URGES PRESIDENT OBAMA TO SUPPORT HARDWORKING TAXPAYERS
WASHINGTON – Gas prices in Charlotte have risen 12 cents since February 1st, and experts warn that a natural disaster, global crisis, or other circumstances outside of our control could cause prices to skyrocket past $3 per gallon.
“America has abundant energy resources,” said Congressman Pittenger. “Families in Charlotte, Troutman, Wesley Chapel, and across the 9th District shouldn’t be at the mercy of rogue warlords or international oil cartels with the power to wreck your family budget. Today’s vote on the Keystone XL pipeline provides a real opportunity to stabilize prices, secure energy independence, and create jobs.”
The Keystone XL pipeline will pump almost 1 million barrels of oil each day from Canadian oil fields to American refineries, providing a reliable alternative to OPEC. This afternoon, Congressman Robert Pittenger (NC-09) joined a bipartisan majority to pass the Keystone XL Pipeline Approval Act by a vote of 270-152.
The Obama Administration was close to approving the Keystone XL pipeline in 2011 when a decision was made to delay approval as a political favor to key supporters of President Obama’s re-election campaign.
“President Obama is threatening to veto the Keystone legislation as a gift to a small group of political supporters on the far-left. Where are your priorities, Mr. President? Let’s work together to help hardworking American taxpayers.”
