SOUTH MECKLENBURG HIGH SCHOOL SWIM CAPTAIN RECEIVES PRESTIGIOUS APPOINTMENT TO UNITED STATES NAVAL ACADEMY

WASHINGTON – Congressman Robert Pittenger (NC-09) is honored to announce that Luke Johnson, a senior at South Mecklenburg High School, received a prestigious appointment to the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis.

Mr. Johnson serves as co-president of the South Mecklenburg Honor Society, captain of the swim and dive team, and is an active volunteer with Special Olympics and St. John’s Episcopal Church.

“The Navy promotes and defends many of the personal traits I value and strive to uphold, such as perseverance, teamwork, patriotism, and loyalty,” explained Mr. Johnson.  “By going to the Naval Academy, I know that I will be surrounded by fellow midshipmen who share these goals and objectives, and the traits that I value will be further ingrained in everything I do.”

Mr. Johnson is the son of Rod and Donna Johnson and lives in south Charlotte.

“Luke ranks near the top of his class, displays tremendous leadership, excels in calculus, and still makes time to actively serve his community,” said Congressman Pittenger.  “Thank you, Luke, for choosing to use your talents to defend our great country, and congratulations on your appointment to the U.S. Naval Academy.”

Mr. Johnson is one of thirteen local students to receive prestigious U.S. Service Academy appointments for the 2016-2017 school year.  Congressman Pittenger will host two “Service Academy Days” later this spring in Charlotte and Fayetteville to give local students the opportunity to learn about the rigorous nomination process.  Call 704-362-1060 for details.
