“Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.”
America’s true superheroes are the brave men and women who volunteer to risk their lives in defense of our freedom.
As a Member of Congress, and as an American, I am deeply grateful for the sacrifices of active duty military, veterans, and their families. North Carolina is home to almost 800,000 veterans, with almost 50,000 living in our Congressional District. One of my greatest privileges in serving as a United States Congressman is working to ensure our veterans have access to the benefits they have been promised and the care they deserve.
Unfortunately, few federal agencies epitomize “the swamp” more than the modern VA. Every single day, my phone rings with veterans who are not receiving appropriate care. On average, my staff is actively involved in over 500 veteran cases.
To help restore accountability at the VA, I co-sponsored and helped pass the Department of Veterans Affairs Accountability and Whistleblower Protection Act, which President Trump signed into law. This bipartisan legislation:
In 2017 I also voted in favor of the bipartisan Veterans Appeals Improvement and Modernization Act, which President Trump signed into law in August. This legislation updates the disability claims appeals process. Currently, problems with the appeals process is one of the top reasons veterans call my office.
My Charlotte office is led by one of the most experienced veterans specialists in the country, who has helped tens of thousands of local veterans navigate red tape at the VA. If you need assistance with veterans benefits, please call my Charlotte office at 704-362-1060.
The freedoms we enjoy have been purchased and protected through the tremendous sacrifices of our Armed Forces. An inefficient government agency with a poor record of accountability should not get in the way of well-deserved benefits. As your Congressman, I am working to restore accountability and efficiency at the VA, and working locally to provide practical assistance to our brave veterans.
