LOCAL STUDENT’S ART TO BE DISPLAYED IN U.S. CAPITOL
CHARLOTTE – Congressman Robert Pittenger (NC-09) is excited to announce the 2014 Congressional Art Competition. Open to high school students in North Carolina’s 9th Congressional District, the first-place artwork will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year.
“Our community is blessed with so many amazing students, and they deserve to be recognized,” said Congressman Pittenger. “The 2014 Congressional Art Competition is a great opportunity to showcase local talent, and gives me the opportunity to brag on our local students to other Members of Congress.”
Artwork may be dropped off at Congressman Pittenger’s offices in Charlotte or Mooresville during normal business hours through April 17th. A Facebook competition on Congressman Pittenger’s Facebook page (facebook.com/CongressmanPittenger ) will be held from April 18th through April 25th, and the five pieces of artwork with the most “likes” will be named finalists. Additionally, a sixth “wild card” finalist will be chosen by a professional art instructor.
The first place winner will be chosen from the six finalists by Congressman Pittenger, his staff, and local art experts.
The first place winner will receive the Congressional Art Award:
- The winning entry will hang in the U.S. Capitol Building for one year.
- The student will receive a scholarship offer from a prestigious arts university.
- The student and a guest will be flown to Washington, D.C. to attend the national reception and view their artwork in the Capitol.
The other four finalists will have their artwork hung in Congressman Pittenger’s district offices.
Second and third place finalists will also receive complimentary admission into a summer studio art program in Charlotte.
The 2014 Congressional Art Competition is carried out at no expense to the Federal Government. All expenses are provided locally in the community. For more information, complete rules, and entry forms, go to pittenger.house.gov/ArtCompetition or call 704-362-1060.
