FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

TERROR TASK FORCE CHAIR ON CIA REPORT: INTERROGATED TERRORISTS STILL ALIVE . . .THOUSANDS OF INNOCENT AMERICANS ARE DEAD

Congressman Robert Pittenger, Chairman of the Congressional Task Force on Terrorism and Unconventional Warfare, had this reaction to the release of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence report on the CIA’s detention and interrogation program:

“The release of the CIA report by Senator Feinstein and Senate Democrats will do great harm to our national security, increase the threat to Americans living overseas, including military, diplomatic, and humanitarian personnel, and weaken relationships with our allies.

“There is no correlation between the barbaric acts of terrorists who gleefully kill innocent Americans and the critical role of the CIA to obtain vital information to protect us from those committed to our destruction.

“The terrorists who were interrogated are still alive.  Thousands of innocent Americans are dead.”

As Chairman of the Congressional Task Force on Terrorism and Unconventional Warfare, Congressman Pittenger (NC-09) has participated in more than 140 private meetings regarding   the impact of U.S. intelligence policy on safety and security around the world, including meetings with Heads of State from across the Middle East, senior counter-terrorism officials, and outside experts.

In September, Congressman Pittenger organized and hosted a first-of-its-kind forum of more than 100 Members of Parliament, Ambassadors, and other officials from 28 European nations to discuss America’s intelligence policy, rebuild relationships damaged by the Snowden revelations, and discuss how to move forward together against ISIS.
