CONGRESSMAN PITTENGER’S STATEMENT ON THE PRESIDENT’S DEBT LIMIT REMARKS

Congressman Robert Pittenger this afternoon released the following statement regarding President Obama’s press conference on the debt limit:
“Today, President Obama repeatedly stated that he was ‘happy to have a conversation’ with House Republicans on deficit reduction.  Unfortunately, history has shown that many of Mr. Obama’s conversations are one-sided.
If President Obama is ready to have a real conversation about reducing our annual deficits and mammoth national debt, I’m ready to talk.  We should start with eliminating the thousands of needless tax loopholes that have been created by Washington lobbyists.  We should also discuss practical steps for reducing future spending while still meeting our current obligations.
A Goldman Sachs study found that President Obama’s recent tax increases, including raising taxes on the wealthiest Americans, will slow economic growth for at least the next 6 months.  President Obama apparently doesn’t understand the true impact of his proposals on working Americans.    We need job growth, and that will only come about through true fiscal accountability and responsibility.”
