CONGRESSMAN PITTENGER ON NPR:  ‘IF WE CAN’T GET THERE, IT’S UNFORTUNATE FOR THE AMERICAN PEOPLE’

During a Friday afternoon interview with NPR’s Here and Now, Congressman Robert Pittenger (NC-09) was asked about the potential impact if House Republicans don’t come together to support the American Health Care Act.

“Does it feel like if Republicans cannot pass this bill that that’s going to be a major blow to the agenda?” asked NPR’s Jeremy Hobson.

“I think it’s a blow to the American people,” replied Congressman Pittenger.  “The carriers of health care, they’re pulling out.  Aetna said it’s on a death spiral.  Humana said they’ll be out by 2018.  Many others have already pulled out.  Actuarially, it never did have the capacity to work and so we’re seeing the effects of that now with the premiums and deductibles escalating.

“If we can’t get there, it’s unfortunate for the American people.”
