FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CONGRESSMAN PITTENGER’S STATEMENT ON THE NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER

Congressman Robert Pittenger (NC-09) issued this statement after participating in a Capitol Hill observance of the National Day of Prayer:

“Today we celebrate the freedom we enjoy as Americans to pray and worship openly, without fear of arrest or oppression.  Many of our forefathers did not enjoy this freedom, and sadly, even today, many around the world suffer religious persecution.

“On this National Day of Prayer, please join me in asking God to give wisdom and courage to our leaders, protection for the troops who defend our freedoms, safety for the brave law enforcement officers who serve our communities, and strength for our dedicated teachers.

“Isaac Watts’ great hymn, ‘O God our help in ages past, our hope for years to come,’ affirms our faith to hold fast and trust God for the future.”

Congressman Pittenger is a Member of the Congressional Prayer Caucus and hosts a weekly Bible study for Members of Congress and Capitol Hill staff.
