CONGRESSMAN PITTENGER: VETERANS BENEFITS SHOULDN’T BE POLITICAL FOOTBALL

Today, Congressman Robert Pittenger (NC-09) voted to keep politics out of cost-of-living adjustments for certain veterans benefits, providing disabled veterans with more financial certainty.
“Those who have suffered grievous injury while protecting our freedom shouldn’t have to worry each year whether or not Congress will approve their cost-of-living adjustment,” said Congressman Pittenger.  “Our Nation has promised these benefits to disabled veterans, and this legislation will ensure those benefits are automatically and appropriately adjusted each year.”
The American Heroes COLA Act (H.R. 570) automatically adjusts veterans disability compensation based on the yearly Social Security cost-of-living adjustment.  Currently, veterans disability compensation can only be adjusted by an act of Congress.
The legislation must be approved by the Senate and signed by the President to become law.
