CONGRESSMAN PITTENGER:  HAVE WE ENTERED THE TWILIGHT ZONE?

Following yesterday’s news that North Carolina has stopped issuing supplemental nutrition benefits for women, infants, and children (WIC program) due to the government shutdown, Congressman Robert Pittenger (NC-09) today addressed Congress, asking if Washington had entered “The Twilight Zone.”
Pointing out that a bipartisan coalition in the U.S. House of Representatives had approved funding for the WIC program last Friday, Congressman Pittenger questioned why Senate Democrats are refusing to act on the legislation.
“Here is where it gets stranger,” said Congressman Pittenger during his speech.  “President Obama has actually threatened to veto the legislation!  The President of the United States is threatening to veto nutrition assistance for little babies and preschoolers.  This isn’t a game!”
In the past week, bipartisan majorities in the House of Representatives have voted to restore funding for WIC, Head Start, cancer research, National Parks, veterans programs, National Guard and Army Reserve programs, disaster relief, the Food and Drug Administration, and the FAA.
