2015 CONGRESSIONAL ART COMPETITION WILL SEND ONE LOCAL STUDENT’S ART FOR DISPLAY IN U.S. CAPITOL
CHARLOTTE – Congressman Robert Pittenger (NC-09) is giving one local student the opportunity to have their artwork displayed in a prominent corridor of the United States Capitol.
“We all know that Mecklenburg, Iredell, and Union have some of the best, most talented students in America,” said Congressman Pittenger. “Now it’s time for the rest of the nation to find out. The 2015 Congressional Art Competition is a great opportunity to showcase local talent and recognize the hard work of our students.”
The 2015 Congressional Art Competition is open to high school students in North Carolina’s 9th Congressional District. Artwork may be dropped off at Congressman Pittenger’s offices in Charlotte or Mooresville during normal business hours through April 9th.
The community will be invited to help select five finalists via a Facebook competition on Congressman Pittenger’s Facebook page (facebook.com/CongressmanPittenger) from April 10th through April 17th. Additionally, a sixth “wild card” finalist will be chosen by a professional art instructor. The first place winner will be chosen from the six finalists by Congressman Pittenger, his staff, and local art experts.
The first place winner will receive the Congressional Art Award:
The winning entry will hang in the U.S. Capitol for one year.
The student will receive a scholarship offer from a prestigious arts university.
The student and a guest will be flown to Washington, D.C. to attend the national reception and view their artwork in the Capitol.
The other four finalists will have their artwork displayed in Congressman Pittenger’s offices in Charlotte and Mooresville.
Second and third place finalists will also receive complimentary admission into a summer studio art program in Charlotte.
The 2015 Congressional Art Competition is carried out at no expense to the Federal Government. All expenses are paid for locally in the community. For more information, complete rules, and entry forms, go to pittenger.house.gov/ArtCompetition or call 704-362-1060.
