CONGRESSMAN PITTENGER: “SHOULD WE ESCORT THE SUPREME LEADER TO VISIT AUSCHWITZ?”
CHARLOTTE – As the rest of the world honored Holocaust victims for International Holocaust Remembrance Day on Wednesday, the Iranian leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, released a series of statements condemning Israel and denying the existence of the Holocaust. Congressman Robert Pittenger (NC-09) responded with these statements:
“President Obama has forged an economic and strategic alliance with Iran, even as the Ayatollah insults Israel and the world with his egregious remarks questioning veracity of the Holocaust. As a Member of Congress, I have visited Auschwitz to observe the horrific evidence – including gas chambers, rail cars, pictures, and large bins containing the remains of hair, glasses, shoes, and other articles from the hundreds of thousands of people who were killed at the merciless hands of the Nazis.
“Speaking from experience, visiting a Holocaust site is deeply emotional and a poignant reminder of the atrocities committed against Jewish ancestors. Should we escort the Supreme Leader on a visit to Auschwitz so he could witness the evidence himself?
“The President’s ill-conceived forays into foreign policy are not only lacking in moral depth but are grievously insulting and offensive to millions of people who have experienced repression and torture from diabolical tyrants around the globe.
“The American people stand with Israel and are outraged by the Ayatollah’s comments and by this administration’s continued commitment to legitimizing and enabling Iran, a U.S.-designated state-sponsor of terrorism.”
Congressman Pittenger serves as Chairman of the Congressional Taskforce on Terrorism and Unconventional Warfare.
